The Philadelphia Story (MGM, 1940). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style D. For over 60 years, this comedy's regard has risen from "acclaimed" to "classic," an only incremental increase in a consistently sterling reputation. In fact, even before its many awards and nominations -- including Best Picture and Best Director Oscar nominations, with a Best Actor statuette for James Stewart -- the stage incarnation ran for a year on Broadway. Howard Hughes bought the rights to the play and gave them to Katharine Hepburn as a gift. For her role as an icy heiress caught between past and future loves, she also earned an Oscar nomination, leaving only Cary Grant's performance unacknowledged among the three stars. This beautiful poster, the better of two styles, has some silverfish nibbling in the upper border and some bit extending down into the "G" in Grant's name and above the "R" in Hepburn's name. There are several other slight nibbles in the center horizontal fold. There are pinholes in the corners and the poster has an additional fold. The colors are vibrant and overall the poster is in great shape. Very Good+.
