Christie's - Dallas. THE NORWEB COLLECTION OF MEXICAN AND SOUTH AMERICAN COINS. This lot includes the following catalogs:
(1) Christie's - Dallas. The Norweb Collection of Mexican and Central American Coins. May 17-18, 1985. 1-850 Lots. 4to. Original pictorial card covers. Public Auction Sale. Dallas. 192 Pages. 4 color coin plates. b&w coin photos throughout. Fine. This catalogue contains the first part of a two-part sale of the Norweb collection of Mexican coins. The very extensive Mexican collection was divided into the colonial series and the Republican coinage. This sale catalog contains the colonial coins. The Norweb collection of coins of Peru was donated before the sale to the American Numismatic Society and at the time of this sale, the coins of Brazil were being retained by the family. The coins of this sale cover a wide area and are bristling with rarities. There are many examples of the more standard coins as well as a great many highlights which include the following: a Presentation 'Royal' 8 Escudos of Mexico, Philip V dated 1702; a Mexico 4 Reales 1732; a Mexico 4 Reales 1643; Guatemala: a very strong group of gold including the 8 Escudos of 1737; a Santo Domingo 4 Reales of Charles and Joanna; a Greenland Dollar 1771; and finally, there is a substantial group of coins from the West Indies. It is one of the best collections of Mexican and Latin American coins to be sold at auction at its time.
(2) Christie's - Dallas. The Norweb Collection of Mexican and South American Coins. November 6-7, 1985. 1-1020 Lots. 4to. Original pictorial card covers. Public Auction Sale. Dallas. 214 Pages. 4 color coin plates. b&w coin photos throughout. Fine. This catalog contains the second and final portion of the Collection of Mexican, Central and South American coins formed by the late Mrs. Emery May Holden Norweb of Cleveland, Ohio. The sale opens with the coins of the two Mexican Empires followed by the Republican and United States issues. Six important regal 4 escudos coins, omitted from the first sale, end the Mexican series. Then follow the coins of the Latin American Republics arranged in alphabetical order, starting with Argentina. The illustrations show a wide range of varieties and types, denominations and mints. It has not been practical to illustrate every example of the Mexican Escudo and Peso series, but a selective choice has been made based on rarity and condition. As with the coins sold in the first auction the collection contains a great many rarities, but special mention should perhaps be made of the following coins; - The Mexico City 'Hidalgo' Pattern 20-Pesos 1892; - Estado de Mexico 8-Escudos 1829; - Guanajuato Mint Pattern 8-Reales 1827; - Ferdinand VII 4-Escudos of Guadalajara Mint 1812; - The Patagonia Patterns of S. M. Orelie Antoine 1874; - Bolivia Pattern 4-Sueldos 1827; - Chile 8-Reales 1762 and 4-Reales 1760; - Colombia 8-Reales 1759 and an extensive series of Colombian Patterns; - Paraguay Piedfort Pattern Peso 1888; - A series of the Caracas coinage of Venezuela and the Pattern and Currency issue 10-Reales of General Paez 1863. The sale includes a number of Royal Mint Patterns by William Wyon and his son, L. C. Wyon, both of whom had a considerable influence in the design of the coinage of Central and South America. There are also a number of Patterns struck by the Heaton Mint of Birmingham.

Any lots not picked up in person (unless other arrangements are made) will be sent to Buyer via U.S. Mail when the invoice has been paid in full. All domestic shipments will carry full insurance, but foreign shipments are made at the Buyer’s risk (insurance available in some cases). Workman's Books is responsible for loss or damage to lots only up until they are received at the address to which they are sent; any transshipment from there is the buyer’s responsibility alone. Any special instructions for shipping, delivery or payment must be in writing (letter, email or text) and will be effective only upon confirmation by us (verbal requests may not be honored). Generally, lots will be shipped in the order in which they are paid.

Please make checks payable to Alan Workman. All checks must be payable in U.S. dollars drawn on U.S. banks. Items paid for by personal or business check subject to 10-business-day waiting period from date of deposit before shipment to allow for bank clearance. Payment must be postmarked by due date or interest will accrue at a rate of 2% monthly, calculated from invoice date. RETURNS (within sale terms) accepted within 30 days of shipment—all sales final after 30 days! Returns will not be accepted on merchandise that has been altered or damaged after shipment. Customer assumes risk and expense of shipment of returns. A 20% Buyer’s Fee is added to the winning bid amount for each lot. There will be a $3.00 charge per lot for processing. TERMS AND CONDITIONS
By participating in this sale, you (hereafter referred to as the “Bidder”) are entering into a binding contract with Workman's Books (“Seller”) and agree to the following Terms and Conditions:
1) Each lot will be sold to the highest Bidder. Bids may only be submitted live on the Internet until each lot is closed during the timed session. The Seller cannot be responsible for errors in bidding or the loss or delay of any bids that do not get placed by the closing date and time, or for any technical glitches that prevent internet bids from being executed. All bidders must be registered before their bids will be entered. All bids are in U.S. dollars.
2) Winning bids will be reduced automatically by the iCollector platform to the next increment above the second-highest bid. In the case of tie bids, the earliest bidder will win the lot. Bidders are advised to provide allowable percentage increases to avoid losing lots due to a tie.
3) A winning bid is contract between the winning Bidder (hereafter referred to as the “Buyer”) and the Consignor. The Buyer, even if acting as an agent for someone else, agrees to purchase the lot(s) he has won and to pay the Buyer’s Premium and any shipping costs, sales tax, bank-wire fees, customs duties, or other surcharges involved in delivering the lot(s) to the Buyer. Certain lots (particularly large bulk lots) may require special packaging and handling, for which a surcharge will be levied (also note shipping calculations will delay invoicing). In some special cases delivery may be arranged directly between the Consignor and the Buyer, at the buyer’s cost. At no time shall the Buyer have any legal recourse against the Consignor for any reason. Buyers will be notified as soon as possible after the sale with an invoice reflecting the total amount due and shall remit payment within two weeks of notification or within one month of the date of the first session of the sale close, whichever is sooner. Buyers who do not receive notification for whatever reason are NOT released from their obligation to pay on time. If payment has not been received within these terms, the Seller reserves the right to sell the lot(s) to any under-bidders for their lower bid amounts. Title to each lot does not pass until the item has been paid in full. Any late payments (one month past invoice date) will be assessed an accrued interest charge of 2% per month.

5) A Buyer’s Premium of 20% will be added to the winning bid for the total purchase price before any applicable taxes, fees or surcharges. Any payments by credit/debit card or PayPal will incur a 3% surcharge on the total. There will be a $3.00 charge per lot for processing.
6) Acceptable forms of payment are cash, check, money order, wire transfer, direct deposit, PayPal, Visa/MC, American Express and Discover. All payments by check or money order should be made payable to Alan Workman. Payments by PayPal (to aworkmanemail@gmail.com) are limited to $2,500 per auction per buyer. All payments shall be in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank. Please contact us for instructions for wire-transfer payments, for which bank charges may be necessarily added to the amount to be paid, generally depending on the country from which the wire originates.
7) Registration of all bidders for the sale will constitute approval only when the bidder provides an acceptable credit card number with registration. Any bidders with an overdue balance with Workman's Books must complete payment of their previous balance before their bids will be accepted.
8) Bidders may only submit bids by bidding online directly on iCollector.
9) All lots are unreserved. Starting prices for this sale are at approximately one-half to two-thirds of estimate, though this may vary. All estimates are given in U.S. dollars.
10) As an active dealer, Workman's Books is able to estimate a reasonably low wholesale level for each lot and reserves the right to reject any bids below this level (generally at least 50% of estimate). Furthermore we reserve the right to reject any bids that we have reason to believe are not submitted in good faith. Starting bids are provided on iCollector when the auction is published, and bids below those starting bids cannot be entered. Prices realized do not necessarily reflect accurate market values so much as what the high bidder is willing to pay based on his own needs.
11) All items are guaranteed as described. This is NOT an approval sale, and therefore returns will NOT be accepted UNLESS there was an error in the listing. Any disputes, including proposed returns, must be brought to our attention no later than 2 days after receipt of the lot(s) by the Buyer and BEFORE return shipment to us, with any applicable refunds to be made immediately upon receipt of the returned item(s) by us. All returns must be received by us in unaltered condition and with their original dust jackets or covers no later than one month after the date of the first auction session (note that late remittance, therefore, can negate return privileges). Any refunds for returns paid for by credit card will be subject to a 3% return fee. In the event of loss or damage, Workman's Book’s liability shall be limited to the hammer price plus buyer’s fee only. Note that any group-lots returned due to error in listing must be returned in entirety.
12) In case of loss or theft the guaranty is limited to either the reserve price (if unsold) or the hammer price plus buyer’s fee (if sold). Any extra expenses incurred by the winning bidder or consignor in order to bid, inspect, consign or pick up the lots are not covered and are the sole responsibility of the winning bidder/consignor. Any potential or speculative value is not guaranteed.

15) All bidders and consignors acknowledge and agree that the Seller (Workman's Books) does NOT guarantee that auctions will be unimpaired, uninterrupted or error-free and accordingly shall not be liable for such eventualities. Any errors will be rectified on iCollector as they come to our attention, and those corrected listings shall be deemed the binding descriptions at the time of the sale. The Seller in its sole and absolute discretion may accept or decline any bid, remove bids and reopen bidding, withdraw lots, or change lot sequence or bidding increments at any time, even after the winning bid and winning bidder have been announced. Any bidding disputes shall be adjudicated by the Seller, whose decision shall be deemed binding and final.
16) All Bidders must meet Seller’s qualifications to bid. Any Bidder who is not a client in good standing of the Seller may be disqualified at Seller’s sole option and will not be awarded lots. Such determination may be made by Seller in its sole and unlimited discretion, at any time prior to, during, or even after the close of the Sale. Seller reserves the right to exclude any person or company from the Sale. Workman's Books reserves the right to reject any bids suspected not to be submitted in good faith. If an entity places a bid, then the person executing the bid on behalf of the entity agrees to personally guarantee payment for any successful bid.
