The Mole People Tunic
This black and white tunic was worn by one of the background "officers" in the seminal 1956 sci-fi motion picture, “The Mole People” The tunic is constructed of a thick woven cotton material and is complete with the original Western Costume Company label sewn inside the smock with "officers" typed in faded black ink. The tunic can be seen worn by various Mole People officer's throughout the film. Considered a B-movie classic among the 1950’s Universal sci-fi horror films, “The Mole People” had a profound impact on later sci-fi novels and films. “Soylent Green” (1973), from a 1966 novel by Harry Harrison, “Logan’s Run” (1976), from William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson’s 1967 novel, and “Beneath the Planet of the Apes” (1969) are just a few works that are influenced by the themes in “The Mole People.” The tunic is in good screen worn condition with evidence of wear due to age and use in production. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
