<B><I>The Midnighters Their Greatest Hits</B></I> 10" LP (Federal 295-90, 1954).</B></I> Simply put, it's one of <I>the</B></I> rarest of the rare US LPs. Hank Ballard wasn't yet getting top billing -- he would soon after, and the group became one of the most influential R&B artists of the day and a great influence on the new genre of Rock and Roll. In fact, Ballard was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, to a large extent because of his early '50s groundbreaking recordings captured here, not because of his relatively few Top 40 records, which would come years later. This was an audacious release -- the group's "hits" had all been released the same year, so it's not too surprising that only a few bothered to buy a "greatest hits" collection! Those who did were not disappointed! It's a classic!
