Sandy is a One (1) of a kind mixed media sculpture done by world famous dinosaur artist John Fischner in 1997. She was commissioned for the official unveiling of the real dinosaur skeleton she represents. She appeared in various museum exhibits, including Mesa Southwest Museum for a number of years afterword.
The Dinosaur- Sandy is a Pachycephalosaurus One (1) of the Bonehead Family of dinosaurs. She is from the cretaceous period 65 MILLION YEARS AGO and was found in South Dakota. She is named Sandy because she was found near Sandy Creek. Her skeleton is the most complete One (1) ever found.
The Artist- John Fischner, from Texas has earned a world wide reputation for the accuracy and detail of his sculptures. He has done a range of prehistoric subjects but much prefers dinosaurs. He has done full size T-Rex to desk top models. His work appears in Museums, Galleries, and public and private collections all over the world.
THE HEAD- Sandy is a full sized represntation of what the dinosaur looked like alive. The process starts with an exact cast duplicate of the real skull. A special clay is used to sculpt the muscles skin and other details. The artists knowledge and skills produce a very good likness of something that hasnt lived for 67 million years .
