The Maltese Falcon (Warner Brothers, 1941).
The Maltese Falcon (Warner Brothers, 1941). Title Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Few tough guys were as tough as Humphrey Bogart, and few of his onscreen personas could compare with the cool-as-a-cucumber Sam Spade, the creation of hard-boiled novelist Dashiell Hammett. In this film, Spade finds himself caught in the middle of a struggle for a priceless statuette of a bird, the Maltese Falcon of the title. Supported by such outstanding character actors as Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, Elisha Cook Jr., and Sydney Greenstreet - in his film debut, which garnered him a Best Supporting Actor nomination - as well as first-time director John Huston, Bogart gives the performance of a lifetime. A classic against which nearly all other film noir pictures are measured, this is not only one of Bogie's best, it's arguably one of the best movies ever made. The very rare and desirable title card offered here shows pinholes in the corners and slight corner bumps, a small chip in the left border, and a small tear at the top, as well as a certain amount of light surface smudging. Even with these extremely minor flaws, this is a piece that will no doubt be the highlight of any collection. It's "the stuff that dreams are made of." Very Fine-. *****

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
