Humphrey Bogart was given the chance of a lifetime when director John Huston cast him as detective Sam Spade in Dashiell Hammett's classic novel. George Raft had turned down the role because he didn't trust the untried talents of a novice director. Big mistake! Bogart went on to become the biggest star in the world. Posters for this film are some of the most sought in the entire hobby and this classic French grande is exceptionally scarce. This is the poster used for the first post-war release of this classic. It has minimal color touch-up to the fold lines. There is a censor stamp in the upper right border and repair to a small hole under the "o" in Astor. The poster was designed by Bonneaud. Very Fine on Linen.
