Very rare complete collection of bronze bookend sculptures of “The Magnificent Seven” - by Texas artist Danny Whelchel (1943-2008) which represents each of the seven bloodlines that were saved and preserved the Texas Longhorn breed from extinction. All seven are pure Longhorn, yet specific traits earmark each family with a special genetic stamp. The seven families were for the most part unrelated. They are Phillips, Wright, Butler, Marks, Wichita, Refuge, Yates and Peeler. All seven families originated in the early 1930’s and before. All seven were separate from other herds with minimal exchanges of blood stock prior to 1932. Every registered Texas Longhorn alive today can trace their genetics back to these original Longhorns. The sculptures are pure beauties with a range of bookend sizes (bronzes are same size) and are done in oak, mesquite and hickory. Only 37 of these sets were cast and a complete collection is nearly impossible to find.
