The Lost Weekend (Paramount, 1945). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14"). This Billy Wilder film noir classic is based upon the novel by Charles R. Jackson. Ray Milland plays an alcoholic writer, who can't seem to escape his relationship with the bottle. This dark brooding drama co-stars Jane Wyman, Phillip Terry, Howard da Silva, and Doris Dowling. Don Birnan (Milland) sums up the sentiment of the film with this quote "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation. I can't take quiet desperation." The film won four Academy Awards (Best Actor - Milland, Best Director - Wilder, Best Picture, and Best Screenplay), and is the defining film in Milland's career. The lobby set has tack holes in some of the corners. Five of the cards have "Suitable For Adults Only" stamped on the bottom border and card #7 has a small partial snipe under the title. The cards in the set range from a Fine- to Very Fine-. The overall grading for the set is Fine/Very Fine.
