(Disneyland, 1955) The "Disneyland Railroad" sign from the side of the Lilly Belle car. As guests lined up by the thousands to enter Disneyland on opening day, they were greeted by the sight of the Main Street Train Station, and the E.P.Ripley pulling the bright yellow cars each proudly labeled "Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad." Most of those passenger cars were retired by 1974 in favor of open "holiday" cars still in use today. The Grand Canyon car was refitted into the Lilly Belle, with the signage repainted to read simply "Disneyland Railroad." These three panels - an impressive 36.16 feet long - graced the Lilly Belle until her last rehabilitation in 2006, seen by millions of Guests in both of its forms through 51 years of Disneyland history. The three panels each measure from 10" to 10.5" high x 136", 137.25", and 169" long. The panels are designed to overlap slightly, and the top 3.5" of each is bare wood, where it was fitted into the car's roof above. The sign is in very good condition even with much wear from Park use, the elements, and scuffs and scrapes from handling. This is truly a one-of-a-kind artifact of Disneyland, Walt Disney himself, and the Company he created.
