The Large Jockey by Isidore-Jules Bonheur
Among the wide variety of animal sculptures by Isidore-Jules Bonheur (1827-1901) exhibited at the Salon were a number of mounted equestrian models including three studies of jockeys on horseback, shown in 1864, 1879 and 1886. The most famous of these is "Le Grand Jockey" or "The Large Jockey".

The work shows a victorious jockey patting his horse on the neck in congratulation. First exhibited in bronze at the 1879 Salon, it was awarded the prestigious Medaille d'Or.

"The Large Jockey" has been cast using the finest pure bronze by the master craftspeople. The sculpture is mounted onto a marble base, stands 23" high by 22.5" wide, and is signed in the bronze. It boasts a gorgeous patina finish applied under very high heat to fuse into the bronze itself. This is a top quality work of art that will surely be treasured by many generations to come.
