The Hollywood Academy Archive from 1928
The Hollywood Academy Archive from 1928. A rare collection material from 1928, regarding screenwriting classes at The Hollywood Academy, as well as a personalized, hardbound notebook containing the actual coursework for the "Motion Picture Play Writing" correspondence lessons in screenwriting (a hefty price for the time, $1000, was charged for the coursework and membership). The elaborately embossed, textured cover lists the student's name (one "Herbert Davis") in gold. Two original mailing envelopes of additional correspondence lessons accompany the lot, as well as an introductory promotional packet for the Academy. Perhaps most intriguing is a folder containing 30 critical analyses of films ranging from Tod Browning's The Unholy Three and Josef von Sternberg's Underworld to Chaplin's The Gold Rush, compiled for students by the Academy's Director of Education. The analyses themselves are fascinating in their own right, offering a rare glimpse into film theory of the late 1920s. In Very Good to Very Fine condition with age-toning and signs of handling to the covers and envelopes.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
