Extensive archive of materials from the production of The Godfather Part III, related to all art aspects of the production design, sets, and scenes. The consignor notes that this archive was acquired directly from art directors Alex and Dean Tavoularis. Archive includes:

A spiral-bound editing script, with the cover sheet reading: “The Godfather Part III, Screenplay by Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola, Part III, Post-Production Draft, (preliminary #9), February 21, 1990.” Several passages throughout the script are highlighted.

A folder of material for the Atlantic City massacre scene, considered by many to be the best scene in the movie, including: a script for the scene; a three-page production memo with notes on the set, cast, perspective, helicopters, and effects, noting that the scene should be “Not like ‘Rambo,’ more like the news footage of the slaying of Anwar Sadat’”; a two-page memo about action in the scene; and seven hand-drawn diagrams and sketches related to the scene, depicting helicopter parts and the suite that is attacked. The three largest drawings are signed by Alex Tavoularis.

A large folder of material related to the opera house setting, including original design sketches, several notes and memos about set design and construction, internal memos about shooting locations and location scouting, and several original photographs of Italian theaters.

Hundreds of pages of production notes, call sheets, schedules, and correspondence related to making the film. Notably, one handwritten note reads: “You have the Trump Helicopter Pad folder. The horrible news that a helicopter, en route to or from Atlantic City, crashed on the Garden State Parkway. Killing four Trump Casino execs & the pilot.” The helicopter attack scene was indeed shot at the Trump Castle Casino Resort in Atlantic City. In overall fine condition. Although The Godfather Part III received mixed reviews compared to its predecessors, it was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Art Direction - Set Decoration—to which the bulk of this material relates. A unique and informative archive from the production of the last installment in the iconic Godfather trilogy.
