The General Civil War Locomotive Model Kit
Item/Description: MPC 1/25 Scale "The General" 4-4-0 American Standard Wood-Burning Steam Locomotive Model Kit which replicates the historic Civil War locomotive. MPC (Model Products Corporation) originally released these museum-quality plastic kits in the early 1980s, featuring over 300 detailed parts including a display stand with a section of track and simulated brass-plated components.

The actual locomotive, "The General," built in 1855, is famous for its role in the 1862 Great Locomotive Chase, where Union spies led by James J. Andrews stole it in an attempt to cripple the Confederate rail network by burning bridges and destroying tracks along the Western & Atlantic Railroad. The mission was unsuccessful, and the locomotive was pursued by its conductor William Fuller on foot, a handcar, and other engines, eventually leading to the capture of the raiders, several of whom were among the first recipients of the Medal of Honor. Today, the actual "General" locomotive is preserved and on display at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia.
