1947, London, England. New Series stock for 48 Pounds. Black. Issued to Victoria Cross Recipient William Philip Lord De L’Isle and Dudley. William Philip Sidney, 1st Viscount De L'Isle (1909 – 1991). 15th Governor-General of Australia and the last one who was British. He was a descendant of King William IV by his mistress Dorothea Bland. Awarded the Victoria Cross for his defense of the Anzio beachhead during World War II. Lightly stamp and punch cancelled.Very Fine.
