<B>The Cocoanuts (Lyceum Theater, 1927).</B></I> Window Card (14" X 22"). Before the advent of sound films in the late 1920s, the Marx Brothers became one of America's favorite theatrical acts. With their sharp and bizarre sense of humor, they satirized institutions like high society and human hypocrisy. In addition, they became famous for their improvisational comedy in their free form scenarios. Their stage shows included "I'll Say She Is" (1924–1925), followed by two musical comedies, "The Cocoanuts" (1925–1928) and "Animal Crackers" (1928–1929). They would make film versions of the last two hits. "The Cocoanuts" was their first smash Broadway hit with story by famed humorist George Kaufman and music and lyrics by Irving Berlin. After a stint on Broadway, the show went on the road. In this lot is a window card from their theatrical version which played at the Lyceum Theater in Rochester, NY from October 3-8, 1927. This fabulous and very rare card pictures the Marx Brothers, as the window card from the Paramount feature version does not. The card is unrestored and has minor foxing on the upper left border and some amount within the title area. This is not distracting in any way.
