The Circus Queen Murder (Columbia, 1933). Lobby Cards (4) (11" X 14"). When District Attorney Thatcher Colt (Adolphe Menjou, pioneer of the Menjou mustache) needs a vacation from the urban jungle, he and his secretary take a train for Gilead, a town in upstate New York. Their vacation is interrupted by a traveling circus, who carry with them all manner of sin -- marital infidelity, murder, cruelty to animals, and even cannibalism. Luckily, Thatcher displays a gift for unraveling mysteries as well as one for understatement, as when he helpfully explains, "It's a well known fact that cannibals differ from the rest of us in their dietary customs." Pinhole-inflicted damage in the corners and tears on the edges have been repaired, and the browning has been significantly lessened, with the varnish gloss restored. Very Good/Fine.
