<B>THE CHIEF OF POLICE BADGE WORN BY BUCK GARRETT, ARDMORE, INDIAN TERRITORY</B></I> - Buck Garrett was a noted lawman and gunfighter in the West. A sometimes policeman, other times gunfighter hired out by the cattle barons to drive off homesteaders in Wyoming, Garrett served as a deputy marshall in the Indian Territory and was later elected to the position of Chief of Police at Ardmore, Indian Territory from 1905 to 1910.<BR><BR>This badge is from the era in which Garrett served as Chief of Police at Ardmore. Presented to him by O. A. Wells, the two-piece gold badge has Garrett's name on the upper device with 'Ardmore, I.T.' on a banner within a star above 'Police'. The badge comes as a set with his election certificate, a police report of a theft signed by Garrett and a photograph of Chief Garrett.
