Featured in this lot is a 1866 second edition Three Volume set, "The Belton Estate" by Anthony Trollope. Published in the same year as the first edition by Chapman & Hall, 193 Piccadilly, London. Anthony Trollope (1815 – 1882) was a prolific English novelist and civil servant of the Victorian era. Despite an unhappy childhood, and a rocky start to his career, he wrote while he maintained his position as a civil servant in the Post Office, ultimately publishing 47 novels and rising to the top of his profession as a senior civil servant. Among his best-known works is a series of novels collectively known as the Chronicles of Barsetshire, which revolves around the imaginary county of Barsetshire. "The Belton Estate" is a novel is about a young woman who has accepted one of two suitors, then discovered that he was unworthy of her love. This collection is highly prized by collectors of Trollope's works, with first editions from 1866 currently for sale in excess of $7,000. This is a very attractive collection of three leather bound books with gold gilt on the covers and spine. These books are in amazingly good overall condition with age tanning and foxing to the intact gold gilt edge pages and slight scuffing on the edges of the covers. No other obvious marring noted, books measure 5W" x 7.5"L x .75"D each approximately.
