A rare opportunity is now at hand as we bring to auction the original paintings by renowned portrait artist Nicholas Volpe from which Capitol Records produced the very popular Beatles poster print sets in 1964. Volpe, most well-known as the official portrait artist to the Oscars, created powerful images of a host of Hollywood’s finest actors including Clark Gable, Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davis and Spencer Tracy in that capacity. He was accorded many prestigious commissions over the course of an illustrious career; among them, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Winston Churchill, David Ben Gurion, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. As a result of winning a Grammy for the cover he designed for the 1959 album “Frank Sinatra Sings For Only The Lonely,” Volpe was commissioned by Hollywood’s Brown Derby to paint nearly 200 of the nation’s top recording artists for its Hall of Fame Record Room. Many sports figures were Volpe subjects as well, including Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale and other members of the Los Angeles Dodgers. His work on The Beatles portraits commenced during the group’s first U.S. visit in February 1964; a second session taking place during The Beatles summer 1964 tour. Capitol Records marketed the poster prints adapted from the paintings soon after. The set of four, 20 x 24” pastel-oil paintings, each featuring two images, comes with an autographed photo of Volpe with the original paintings and a letter of authenticity from the son of Nicholas Volpe. The superlative artist, also a noted poet, author and syndicated columnist, passed away in 1997.

We and the consignor make no representations and warranties, express or implied, as to whether the purchaser acquires and copyright, including but not limited to any reproduction rights of any property other than that expressly stated in the lot description.
Registration: You must register in order to bid in this auction. You can register online, by telephone or at the auction site. We will confirm your name, address and phone number(s) and ask what method of payment you prefer, if successful in the auction. Registration is free and does not obligate you to bid or buy anything. Catalogs are $25. Auction seating at the event is by catalog.
Saleroom Notices: Please check for any saleroom or online notices or amendments as these supersede catalog descriptions.
Live Bidding: If you are a registered bidder you can bid live at the auction. The auction will begin at 1:00 O'clock pm, Las Vegas time in the St. Croix room of the Mirage hotel on the strip.

Estimates / Reserves: Lot descriptions in this catalog include an estimated value range, which reflects our expert opinion of what the item might be expected to bring in the auction based on factors including condition, rarity, provenance and prices paid for similar items at auction and may be revised prior to the auction. The estimate does not include the buyer's premium. While some items in this catalog are subject to a confidential reserve price (an agreed upon price between the seller and ItsOnlyRocknRoll.com below which the item will not be sold) many items in this auction are being sold without reserve. In no case will an item's reserve price exceed the low estimate. Those items are indicated in the catalog with an asterisk (*) preceding the estimate; i.e. *$500-700.
Inspection/Consultation: All items will be on display on the eBay Live auction site. We will hold in person previews of most of the auction lots in the St. Croix room of the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas on Sunday, July 1st from 4pm to 10pm, on July 2nd from 2pm to 10pm and on July 3rd from 10am til noon. We will be happy to give detailed information by telephone for any lots in this auction prior to Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007. Please ask any questions as early as possible.
Placing a bid: By bidding in this auction you acknowledge that you have read, and that you agree to be bound by the Terms of Sale and Conditions outlined herein, and further, you accept these terms and conditions without reservation.
Winning notification: Winning bidders will be notified by mail and email. Auction results are available to anyone who sends a stamped self addressed envelope with a request. All winning bidders will receive the prices realized for the entire auction.
Grading: We strive to describe every item very accurately by giving a grade, a verbal description and photos. We use the following terminology: GD = Good, VG = Very Good, EX = Excellent, NRMT = Near Mint and MT = Mint, which may be further modified by plus (+) or minus (-) signs. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have about any items, just call or email.
Buyer's Premium: There will be a 20% buyer's premium added to each winning bid placed live at the event, by phone at the event or by absentee bid placed with ItsOnlyRocknRoll.com regardless of method of payment. Bidders on eBay Live are subject to a 22.5% buyer's premium regardless of method of payment. Placing a bid is a contractual obligation and no bids may be withdrawn at any time, no exceptions!
Suspension or Termination of Registration: Bid manipulating and fraudulent bidding are prohibited. Collusion between bidders and price manipulation are prohibited. We may, in our sole discretion refuse or remove bids that ItsOnlyRocknRoll.com believes are fraudulent and may cancel any bids that ItsOnlyRocknRoll.com believes are not in good faith or made in violation of applicable law. ItsOnlyRocknRoll.com reserves the right, at its sole and unfettered discretion, to suspend or terminate any buyer's registration or bidding privileges in a sale by ItsOnlyRocknRoll.com. No suspended or terminated buyer may re-register without ItsOnlyRocknRoll.com's express written permission.
Withdrawal of items: Sellers are prohibited from withdrawing items from the auction. ItsOnlyRocknRoll.com reserves the right to withdraw any items from any auction or sale.
Payment Methods: Cashier’s checks, money orders and wire transfers are our preferred methods of payment and enable us to process your orders most efficiently. We accept cash, checks, certified checks, wire transfers, Paypal, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. All invoices must be paid within 14 days, so that we may pay our consignors in a timely fashion, unless prior arrangements are made in advance. Personal and company checks will delay shipment until payment has cleared our bank. No special arrangements are available without the approval of our credit department. It's Only Rock n Roll shall be entitled to charge late and / or interest charges at up to the highest rate permitted by law, as well as attorney’s fees and other collection costs incurred by us, on any past due accounts.
Sales Tax: It’s Only Rock n Roll shall collect applicable sales tax for any items won and paid for in Las Vegas, as well as, those paid for and delivered in New York. Bidders who claim tax exempt status from the sale or use tax charges must deliver a properly executed exemption certificate before the auction. Bidders agree to indemnify and hold harmless It’s Only Rock n Roll from any such tax and liability.
Expert Shipping and Packing: Lots are shipped following receipt of cleared funds totaling payment in full for your entire winnings. Certified funds, money orders and credit card payments usually ship first. Bidders must pay for packing, shipping and insurance costs for all items they win. We do not profit from shipping. International orders will be declared at the full invoice amount, with no exceptions. Buyer is responsible for all duty and customs charges. Items may be picked up in person, by appointment, after payment, in cleared funds, has been received. All items are shipped from our location in Huntington, N.Y.
Guarantees & Authenticity: We guarantee that all items offered are as described in the catalog or as amended on the auction website. All autographed items are unconditionally guaranteed genuine without time limit. If a lot is declared to be not authentic, we may, at our discretion, ask for the written opinion of one competent authority acceptable to us. We will refund the purchase price after documentation has been submitted. The buyer’s only remedy under this guarantee is the cancellation of the sale and the refund of the purchase price. Non-autographed items are subject to the same guarantee as above, however claims must be made within 30 days of receipt of items(s) by buyer in writing. No exceptions. No returns will be accepted after 30 days for any reason.
Returns: All items are sold AS IS and all sales are final. No returns are accepted. All bids are final once placed. Bidders are welcome to inspect and view any item in the catalog in person, by appointment, as per the instructions in the Terms and Conditions of Sale. All items are sold as described. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding as bids may not be cancelled.
Disputes: In the event of disputes regarding either the existence or amount of bids It’s Only Rock n Roll may rescind the sale of that lot and re-sell it or otherwise directly dispose of the lot at our sole discretion. In all cases the auctioneer's / It’s Only Rock n Roll’s decision is final. It’s Only Rock n Roll is not responsible for errors in bidding. Mistaken bids will not justify the rescission of the sale.
Consignors: Consignors are not allowed to bid on or withdraw their own lots nor to assign agents to bid on their behalf.
Our rights: We reserve the right to postpone the auction for a reasonable period of time as the result of a significant unavoidable event (i.e. Acts of God).
