The Beatles Are Here! 1964 Capitol Records Promotional Banner. An original Capitol Records Day-Glo orange banner sent out to record stores and retailers at the beginning of 1964 to promote the brand new group from England. With the Ed Sullivan Showdriving the mania, the group hardly needed promoting, but Capitol finally realized its good fortune and started printing up attention-grabbing point-of-purchase materials like this for record retailers, including department stores.

Unlike EMI over in England, Capitol in America was fighting for Beatles market share with several other labels at the outset of Beatlemania. In the first six months of '64, this banner was promoting two Capitol singles and two albums: "I Want to Hold Your Hand," "Can't Buy Me Love," Meet the Beatlesand The Beatles' Second Album. No problem, right? Well, except for the fact that up through the summer of '64, the Fab Four had sixrecords released on VeeJay, two on Swan and two on Tollie – 10 in records all, and all being made a fuss over by teenagers. Capitol very much needed to stake its claim.

The orange color of this piece looks much better in person than it does in pictures. Measures 24 1/2" x 10" and grades to Very Good Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
