The 3 July 1863 edition of the ''New York Tribune'' newspaper announcing the Battle of Gettysburg and the Siege of Vicksburg, the most crucial turning point of the Civil War. The front page reports in large typeface: ''The Rebel Invasion / Severe Battle Near Gettysburg / Major-Gen Reynolds Killed / The Rebels Repulsed and Driven / Reported Capture of 6,000 Prisoners...'' An article reads: ''...our forces passed through Gettysburg at 10 o'clock yesterday morning, and...encountered Gens. Longstreet and Hill, who attacked...'' The article on the Siege of Vicksburg details the casualties of the battle fought largely with grenades. Paper runs 8pp. A few tiny edge tears, but near fine given age.
