A Historical Adventure for Two to Manassas, Virginia for Four Days & Three Nights at the Fairfield Inn and Suites with Economy Class Air, Including a Four-Hour Private Tour of Either the First or Second Battle of Bull Run Though the Civil War began when Confederate troops shelled Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861, the war didn't begin in earnest until the Battle of Bull Run, fought in Virginia just miles from Washington DC, on July 21, 1861. Heavy fighting swept away any notion of a quick war. In August 1862, Union and Confederate armies converged for a second time on the plains of Manassas. The Confederates won a solid victory bringing them to the height of their power. Manassas National Battlefield Park, established in 1940, preserves the sites of the First and Second Battles of Manassas. These important battlegrounds and associated monuments are nestled in over 5000 acres of meadows, woodlands and streams. Your private tour will begin at the Visitor Center and guided through the battlefield landscape of either the first or second Battle of Bull Run. Visit the landscape where on a warm July day in 1861, the newly formed Union and Confederated armies clashed for the first time. Or tour the climactic stages of the second battle at Manassas that paved the way for the Confederate invasion of the North.
