The Canadian Mining Institute, 1898, Barlow Memorial Medal. In 1916, a trust was established to provide a prize for best paper written on Economic Geology. The Barlow awards, in honour of the late Alfred Ernest Barlow, D.Sc., F.R.S.C., who's contribution to Pre-Cambrian Geology was monumental, and who served as President from 1912 to 1914, were initially given as cash, then as as a silver medal, supplemented with cash. This example is a copper trial. Ae, uniface, 37.5mm, 2.74mm thick, 19.25gms. As CH#1460-5, EF, couple of spots. The name of the Institute changed to the Canadian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy in 1920. The earliest silver award is documented in 1926, with 17 recipients through 1940. The Canadian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy began issuing gold awards in 1941 and a medal for bravery in 1935. Extremely Rare.
