The Angry Red Planet (American International, 1960). Insert (14" X 36"). In a framing device unusual for the genre at the time, a manned Mars probe returns to Earth with only three of the four crewmembers aboard: one of them, a professor (Les Tremayne), is dead; another, the mission commander (Gerald Mohr), is in a coma and suffering from some kind of alien infection; and the third, exo-biologist Iris Ryan (Nora Hayden), is in a state of shock. With any record of what happened erased, doctors place Ryan under hypnosis, and her subsequent, unnarrated flashback forms the majority of the film. The characters encounter a variety of dangerous creatures, including the giant bat-rat-spider featured in this insert. Rather than filmed in the black and white familiar to the genre at the time, the movie utilized "Cinemagic," which gave the entire screen a deep red tint but also created the illusion of dimensionality. The insert (once folded, now rolled) prominently mentions the special effects process as an appeal to attract television viewers to the theater, but the clean borders and sharp edges ensure that this poster will be as spectacular as the film. Very Fine+.
