The Adventurer (Select Pictures, R- Early 1920s). Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41").
This rare early reissue one sheet is a splendid homage to one of film's most beloved entertainers, Charlie Chaplin. The last of Chaplin's twelve two-reel comedies shot during his stint at Mutual Studios, The Adventurer comes from a series of shorts that are considered some of the best in his career, now known as The Golden Dozen. His contract with the studio made him one of the highest paid people in the world at $670,000 per year, translating to over $15 million in today's dollars. More importantly, Chaplin enjoyed a large degree of artistic freedom at Mutual that enabled him to produce some of his finest work, and later referred to his time there as the happiest point in his career. Expert restoration to this lovely stone litho poster has repaired such signs of age as fold separations, small tears, a few mild creases, and some chipping at the edges and lower crossfolds. The borders have been airbrushed and there is some light enhancement to the color of the title and lower text. However, the excellent image of Chaplin showed little wear prior to restoration and, outside of fading of the yellows, retains its original bright colors, making it a prime display piece.
