United States Government. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, TRANSMITTING THE ANNUAL REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR OF THE MINT AT PHILADELPHIA, AND THE BRANCH MINTS, FOR THE YEAR 1846. (Washington): Ritchie & Heiss, printers, Feb. 8, 1847. 8vo, self-covered. 7, (1) pages. Removed from previous binding. Near fine. A very scarce antebellum Mint Report, transmitted to Congress via President Polk from Mint Director R.M. Patterson. Provides detailed information on the coinages of the Philadelphia, Charlotte, New Orleans and Dahlonega Mints. Especially interesting for information on the southern mints. “The rebuilding of the branch mint at Charlotte has been completed, and the new machinery made and set up, at a cost short of the estimates presented.”
