Lacking engraved title; half-title present, with above information deduced from it. Folio [34.5 by 23.5 cm], early full brown calf, paneled in gilt; spine with five raised bands, ruled and lettered in gilt. Half-title, (10), 78, (4), 99, (3), 39, (13) pages; 45 + 81 + 11 full-page engraved plates of coins. Binding very worn but holding; spine leather lacking or loose, with edges and corners rubbed through; lacking title; marginal staining. Good only. A 17th-century edition of Goltzius, annotated and edited by the Portuguese scholar Luis Nuñez, and published by the famous Plantin Press. A noted Belgian scholar and engraver, Hubert Goltz (1526-83), was also a painter and numismatist, largely taught in the arts by his father Rüdiger, himself a painter. He was a major influence in the early evolution of numismatics and his series of folio works on ancient Roman and Greek coins remained standard references for two centuries. Babelon 90. Dekesel G96.
