Thailand: Early Thai & Indonesian Primitive Mone
Early Thai & Indonesian Primitive Money, this group of "Odd & Curious" currency features two different silver 4 Baht or tamlung from the Kingdom of the Lannathai circa 1290AD. Also known as "broken bracelets," these early forms of money were bent into their characteristic style and stamped with various geometric designs and script. See Mitchner 2741-2765. Both items are choice VF and very attractive and retail for $150 each and are among the most popular forms of primitive money. Also included is a silver bracelet engraved with small sunbursts, triangles and swastikas, said to be of Thai origin and possibly used as money in the 1700s. This fascinating lot concludes with a group of seven northern Indonesian iron balls weighing 30-35 grams, completely covered with characteristic local Arabic inscriptions, similar in style to Mitchner (Islam) 3986-3993 but of uncertain date of manufacture. Estimated retail value is $650. Sold as is, no return lot.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
