<B><I>Convention Between Her Majesty And The Republic Of Texas, Containing Arrangements Relative To Publick Debt.</B></I></B></I> <I>Presented to both Houses of Parliament, by Command of Her Majesty, 1842</B></I>. London: Printed by T.R. Harrison, St. Martin's Lane. Dated and signed in print at end: "<I>Done at London, the fourteenth day of November, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty. (L.S.) Palmerston (L.S.) J. Hamilton</B></I>." Four-page folder, approximately 8.25" x 13". First edition.<BR><BR>One of three important treaties with Great Britain which led to the Republic's eventual peace with Mexico and ultimate annexation to the United States. As noted in Eberstadt: "In this Convention England offers to mediate a treaty of peace between Texas and Mexico, Texas agreeing to assume one million pounds sterling of the Mexican foreign debt if such a treaty be concluded within six months."<BR><BR>Hamilton successfully negotiated three treaties with Great Britain, and although they were signed in November 1840, the provisions of the treaties would not be put into effect until July 1842. Housed in a burgundy half-morocco folding case with marbled boards, raised bands and gilt lettering at spine.
