Beginning in the 1840s, a wave of social unrest in Germany began a flood of immigration to Texas. Henry Francis Fisher was a key part in the Fisher–Miller Land Grant, which was an early colonization effort of the Republic of Texas. Miller and Fisher sold their 1842 land grant to the Adelsverein on June 22, 1844. The Adelsverein was a German society that sought to establish a new Germany on Texas soil through organized mass emigration.
