Texas Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver, belonging to Cpl. John H. Engle, 10th Texas Cavalry Regiment, #63528, .36 cal., 7-1/2'' octagon barrel, originally with blue finish, brass backstrap and triggerguard, U.S. marked frame, cartouched one-piece walnut grips stamped ''John H. Engle'', who is listed in the Confederate Military Service records as enlisting as a Corporal (date unknown), having served in Co. E, 10th Texas Cavalry, under Col. M.F. Locke. Buttstrap is very faintly scratched ''10 Tex'' and appears to be of the period. The 10th Texas Cavalry fought side by side with Terry's Texas Rangers at Murfreesboro, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Chickamauga, and the Atlanta Campaign. Condition is good retaining approx. 30% thinning and heavily toning blue. Grips show light scuffs, scratches and some darkening. Screws with some aberations. Revolver appears to have not been disassembled for many years. All military inspector marks are clear and present with all visible matching serial numbers. Safety pins are present but flat, and one nipple and wedge screw are broken. Action indexes correctly, bore is fair to good. Est.: $8,000-$12,000. (Antique)
