Texas Cattle Trade: Motion and Execution Docket
Texas Cattle Trade: Motion and Execution Docket of the County Court of Kendall County, Texas from 1875-1880. Measuring 8.25" x 13.75", this large ledger contains almost 200 pages of agreements and notes involving a voluminous number of cattle transactions conducted in Kendall County, Texas between 1875 and 1880. All pages appear to be in the hand of the county clerk. A typical entry in the docket, of which there are several dozen, shows a county-registered agreement between the parties involved, followed by the terms of the exchange, most including the number, brand, mark, age, and sex of the cattle to be traded. This is typically followed by an endorsement from the county clerk. Most interesting for Texas history buffs is the vast collection of brands included in this docket. There are literally hundreds of distinct brands representing ranchers from all over the state of Texas in the late-19th century, a real boon for the collector interested in the history of Texas commerce of the period. In addition, several famous cattlemen are mentioned in the docket, including George Washington Saunders and Andrew Jackson Potter. The docket is in about very good condition, with noticeable edge wear to the boards, including some surface loss at the head and tail of the spine. The interior pages, though minimally toned in a few places, remain remarkably clean and legible. A real find for anyone interested in the history of Texas cattle trading.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
