Engraving "Testament of Eumidas" by Jean Pesne (1623-1700) after the painting of the same name by NIcolas Poussin (1594-1665). On his deathbed Eudamidas asks his two closest friends to take care of his mother and sister after his death. The moral of the story is one of stoicism. His friends accept the burden without hesitation. Text on the reverse of the sheet reads as follows: Bibliotheque Nationale, Cabinet des Estampes, Chefs-D'Oeuvre et Pieces Uniques, Ecole Francaise, XVII Siecle, Jean Pesne - Le Testament d'Eudamidas, dápres le tableau de Nicolas Poussin, Gravure au burin du Ier etat. In good used condition with toning and other signs of wear on surrounding sheet as shown (can be concealed with a mat when framing).
