Fully lustrous and prooflike. This coin was struck from a fairly early die state, showing only a light obverse break from the rim to the top right corner of the first E. August Bechtler was the second generation to operate the family's coinage making enterprise and the nephew of its founder Christopher Bechtler. August stuck undated gold coins in $1 and $5 denominations from 1842 to around 1852.
