Termites And Twigs Preserved In Amber
<Our item number 139061>Termites And Twigs Preserved In Amber. Amber is fossilized resin from extinct pine trees. Occasionally insects would become trapped in the sticky resin and be mummified (dessicated) with incredible preservation of their soft tissues, muscles, microscopic detail, and sometimes even color. Young Columbian amber is found primarily in the Andes mountain range and has not been properly dated, but this specimen is probably between 1-5 million years old. Featuring a classic golden honey color, much like Dominican amber, this extremely large 5 x 4 x 2.5 inch clear nugget weighs more than a pound at 530 grams. Its color and clarity allow for detailed study of a partial termite colony and the twigs they were eating when they were preserved. There is also an anhydro water bubble with a large drop of water contained inside. One 2.5 inch section of amber is lighter in color and slightly loose but still attached. This lighter amber was probably deposited at a later date than the main mass. Overall, this rich amber specimen is both a beautiful and interesting piece for any collection.

Add $20.00 for domestic shipping.
Estimated Value $850 - 1,200.

Our item number 139061
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
