Tercod Metal Refining Industrial Crucible
Featured in this lot we have a Tercod metal refining industrial crucible originating from the mid to late 1900's. The crucible is constructed from tercod, which is a improved silicon carbide refractory brick developed for metal casting and refining. Tercod is more conductive for both electric and thermal energy while reducing thermal expansion and is inert to most slag found in metal. Crucibles are designed to heat metal into a liquid for casting and are made out of materials with a far higher melting point than the metal. This crucible displays a thick two part construction with the main body and a separate piece for the nozzle. The piece shows some discoloration across the exterior due to use with a faded tag across one side. The crucible shows a industrial size allowing a large metal capacity. The piece shows good condition overall with some light wear and no cracks or visible damage. The piece measures 19" tall with a diameter of 14" and 24" at the widest.
