Sherpa guide (1914–1986) who, along with Edmund Hillary, was a member of the first party to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953. Signed book: After Everest: An Autobiography. Later printing. New Dehli: Vicas Publishing House, 1977. Hardcover, 5.75 x 8.75, 184 pages. Signed and inscribed on the first free end page, “To Edgar A. Poe, Tenzing Norgay.” A Norgay stamp has been applied under signature. Accompanied by a TLS from Norgay, signed “Tenzing,” on his personal letterhead, dated October 21, 1980. Norgay writes to Edgar A. Poe in Baltimore, reading, “I am sending my book Tenzing after Everest with my autograph.” Scattered foxing to fore-edges, and some scattered light wear to covers, otherwise fine condition.
