M.M. Mathews, 1880, Baker, Jones & Co., Buffalo. 6.5 x 9”. Hardbound, gilt lettering on front piece and spine. Only minor wear top and bottom of spine, gilt slightly fading, as usual. Paher 1249. (Nevada, an Annotated Bibliography,1980) Mathews and her son went to Nevada to ascertain the details of the death of her brother, who was defamed by a local writer. She set out “to set the record straight.” The majority of the book is about Virginia City and the Comstock, from a woman’s perspective. As such it is unique, as are the comments. In my opinion (fh), there is not another book like it discussing the Comstock from the inside – from inside the family home as a first-hand account – entirely from a woman’s perspective. It is an invaluable reference and research tool. Rare.City: County: State: NVDate: 1880
