Each volume in this set includes a one-page introduction on the importance of each work, written by the publisher, Jerome Holtzman, longtime sports columnist for several Chicago newspapers and national sports magazines, baseball history advisor to <I> Encyclopedia Britannica,</B></I> and member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Commissioner Bud Selig named Holtzman Major League Baseball's first official historian in 1999, and he is also credited with inventing the save for relief pitchers in 1959-1960. This handsome set is in fine condition, with very minor spine knicks to a few volumes. Otherwise, this set is wonderful.
