Ten Dollar 1815 Interest Bearing Treasury Note Very Fine. Dated February 24, 1815, this note is one from a series of circulating Treasury Notes that began in 1812. It's identical to the piece pictured on page 57 of Gene Hessler's Comprehensive Catalog of U.S. Paper Money and cataloged by him as X83C. The note is signed by Samuel Walker and Edward Fox. It's printed on paper watermarked "United States." The last time this note sold publicly, it had a Scotch tape stain and a long tear beginning in the top margin and going down through the eagle. At that time, the cataloger mentioned that the note was a prime candidate for professional repair. That repair has now taken place, and without the very closest of scrutiny, the tear has become invisible. The Scotch tape stain is gone. The top and bottom borders are irregularly cut and partially trimmed, but the side margins are full. Last time out, with its problems, the note realized $4600. Now, beautifully restored, it's worth considerably more. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
