Ten Cents a Dance (Columbia, 1931). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Barbara Stanwyck gets paid ten cents a dance. She tells her ingrate husband (Monroe Owsley) that she only sells her time, but when a wealthy businessman (Ricardo Cortez) comes courting, the husband suspects infidelity. He uses his suspicions to rationalize a litany of sins -- gambling, adultery and theft, stealing from no less than the very same wealthy businessman. The raciness extends beyond the scenario to lines of dialogue, as when Stanwyck says to Cortez, "My brains are in my feet, while yours are in..." The coded sexual tension playfully teased at in the film appears in this card as well, which hints at the beginning moments of intimacy. Restored to reduce browning and repair only pinhole wear, the card looks great today, a rare find for any collector. Fine+.
