Ten - 7th Cavalry Officers Clipped Autographs
Ten 7th Cavalry Officers Clipped Autographs. This collection of signatures, scalped by savages from larger documents and retrieved from the plains of the autograph battlefield boasts such noteworthys as J.M. Bell, Edward S. Godfrey, Thomas B. Weir, Donald McIntosh, James E. Porter (2), Henry M. Harrington, George W. Yates, L. R. Hare, and James Calhoun. A few points of interest: Harrington's body was never recovered at the horn, but his head is at the Smithsonian; Hare- lost his, and was buried at the battlefield; Calhoun married into the "clan" by wedding Custer's sister- and paid dearly for that; Yeats was one of the leaders of the "Custer Clan." He fought at Manassas, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg but he was granted early retirement by the Indians while commanding both E and F Company at Little Bighorn. All are clean signature cuts, noting their status as 7th Cavalry.
