Theodore Roosevelt: Two Different Varieties Of This Popular 1 ¾" Pinback From His 1898 New York Gubernatorial Candidacy.

These colorful designs picturing Roosevelt as a Rough Rider are among the most sought-after Roosevelt button varieties. There were a number of varieties issued both during his campaign for governor and during his 1900 vice presidential candidacy. Here we have two 1898 examples, one with "For Governor" in the field, and the other with "Colonel" in the same place. Each is holed at the bottom, as made to allow something to be suspended there. Most examples were so manufactured. One of these copies has a metal Rough Rider hat, while the other had had a rabbit's foot at one time. As usual, the rabbit's fur has disintegrated over time, leaving only the skeletal remains of the foot. This particular button style often comes with various types of condition problems, probably because they were enthusiastically worn during the campaign rather than simply tucked away. However, both of these examples are in excellent condition.

Shipping: Small Collectibles (view shipping information)
