Two TLSs regarding the retirement of Raymond O’Connell from the Department of Labor and Industries, each one page, United States Senate letterhead, June 1971. Kennedy declines an invitation to an event honoring O’Connell in the first letter, in part: “I know that Ray has done a great job—I really regret that I won’t be with you.” The second, written to O’Connell himself, in part: “You have my most sincere admiration, for you have devoted your time, your talent, your energy and your creative leadership to your community, to your profession and to the state of Massachusetts.” In overall fine condition. Accompanied by three letters on the same topic from Congressman James Burke, Congressman Thomas O’Neill, and judge John McCormack, as well as an unsigned photo of JFK shaking O’Connell’s hand.
