Tarquin Olivier Handwritten Postcard
Tarquin Olivier Handwritten Postcard - Tarquin Olivier was the first child of the world's greatest actor, Laurence Olivier, with his first wife actress Jill Esmond. He became a producer and director in his own right, including the definitive bio on his father. Having inherited his wit and charm from his famous father, Tarquin was the darling of the International celebrity set, even at a young age. This is an extremely rare handwritten postcard from the then 16 year old Tarquin, written to actor Van Johnson and his wife, who were close friends of the Olivier's. Tarquin has written a familiar 'catch phrase" of the time (actually from an early era, and he most likely got it from his father): "What ever happened to Judge Crater?". And it is signed "Tarquin". It was a way of saying to a friend you haven't talked to in awhile: "Hey, so, how's it going, what's new?" The reference was to Joseph Crater, a Justice of the New York Supreme Court who disappeared in 1930 while out for dinner in New York. He was never found, and was known as "The missingest Man in New York". The rare postcard which shows a baby donkey "feeding" on its mother, is postmarked March 19, 1952 from Sedona, Arizona and includes the original cancelled two-cent stamp. This comes directly from Van Johnson's personal collection, and includes a Letter of Provenience from the Johnson’s daughter, Schuyler Johnson along with a copy of her famous controversial cover story article “My Life As A Hollywood Princess”, about her trials and tribulations growing up in Beverly Hills with a superstar father and extended “family” with some of the most famous celebrities in the world.
