Tarnished brass stamped Deputy U.S. Marshal’s badge circa 1930’s to 1940’s in overall very good condition with no maker’s marks on reverse and safety pin style findings; the badge is contained in an oval frame with laser photo on metal backing of W.E. “Ebb” Riggs standing beside a Model A vehicle and with the following information “At seventeen he became the deputy sheriff of Zavala County, Texas. At twenty-four he was sheriff of the county. He resigned as sheriff in 1930 to join Company “D” Texas Rangers. In 1939 he became Deputy U.S. Marshal for the Western district of Texas and would serve in this capacity for the next twenty-four years”. This lot was consigned from an old collection in New Mexico and it is our understanding the badge was purchased in the 1970’s from a Tom Keilman auction in Texas. Est.: $500-$1,000.
