(Disneyland, 1966) An incredible recording of a speech given by Walt Disney during his last recorded visit to Disneyland on October 14, 1966. Walt would enter St. Joseph Hospital on November 2 and would be diagnosed with lung cancer before passing away on December 16, 1966. This recording marks the last known speech given by Walt, as well as his last known time visiting Disneyland. The speech was part of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society's 1966 National Convention. As a teenager, Walt Disney had been an ambulance driver for the Red Cross during the first World War, and his great appreciation for the recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor led him to host them at Disneyland. The events included a special performance of "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" at the Main Street Opera House, as well as a speech by Walt Disney. The speech documents Walt's appreciation for these individuals, several inside jokes between Walt and his staff, and other thoughts from Walt during what would become, unbeknownst to him, his final visit to Disneyland. This incredible recording on Scotch magnetic tape represents one of the few known recordings of Walt's final Disneyland speech, and the reel comes in its original Scotch box. The tape reel measures 7" in diameter with the tape itself measuring 3.5" in diameter on that reel. The tape is in very good condition with minor wear from use.
