8th. century CE nephrite celadon jade carving in shape of a mythical bird used as a scholar's brush wash. What is extraordinary is that the celadon jade carving was enveloped in gold and a thin layer of bronze that most of this is still present and displays a beautiful verdigris patina and encrustation. Dimensions: 4" X 3.2" X 3" (10 X 8 X 7.5 cm.). Estimated value: $16.000.
