For your consideration in this lot is a exquisite signed, numbered, limited edition of "Talking Robe" by Howard Terpning (1927-), produced by The Greenwich Workshop and in a stunning accented frame from Belgrade Gallery & Gifts. Howard Terpning is an American painter and illustrator best known for his paintings of Native Americans. Terpning did have a long career as a commercial artist doing notable work such as the movie poster for Lawrence Of Arabia (1963). This piece is an "offset lithograph" that the artist approved the proof and numbered and "re-signed" himself. This piece comes with provenance from The Greenwich Workshop. The lithograph shows a Northern Plaines Native American in a Buffalo robe that is "Talking" by the paintings of the mans deeds of his life. The man is in a calico shirt and is wearing ten strands of trade beads and shell earrings. His headdress made of the "hump" of a buffalo's hide and feathers. This lithograph is triple matted and in a heavy "wormhole" frame. On the side of the frame is mounted a reproduction of an arrow from a Native American. The arrow has painted feather fletching a shaft decorated in trade seed beads and rawhide strips with a stone arrowhead at the tip. The arrow is 30". In 2006, at the Coeur d'Alene Art Auction Terpning's Search for the Renegades sold for over $1.4 million, The Stragglers sold for just over $1 million. The lithograph is resigned in the lower right corner "Terpning 1092/1200". The shown art is 24" x 17" and the frame measures 35" X 28 3/4". this piece is in very good condition with no signs of damage.
